Encouraging A Child’s Intuition & Trust In Themselves

This blog post is kudos to my daughter. Children are always learning and this weekend proved to be a great life lesson for our girl and us as her family!

During a walk at our family cottage, we walked down to a stream where each year minnows and or tadpoles like to start their life. While looking at the stream our daughter noticed something. She spoke up and said “look its a snake at the edge of the water!!!”. We all, perhaps not wanting it to be true, immediately said no, that can’t be a snake its just a stick. So our son threw a stick into the water near the snake/stick… sure enough the snake began swimming back up the river (thankfully not towards the lake LOL).

Further along on our walk we were headed back to the cottage on the road. A path our kids have been familiar with since they were in diapers and one we enjoy many times a season. As we walked past the stream at the road we could hear the fish trying to swim/jump through the water. Getting down by the stream our son was looking in the water at the fish and said, ‘nope these aren’t trout’. Our daughter piped up and said ‘they are salmon’. Again we all were hesitant, honestly because how would she know what kind of fish they were. We watched the fish for a bit until a woman came out of her cottage, which is near the stream and asked if we (and others walking by) saw the salmon running up the stream…

Monday our daughter was making a cheesecake so we could celebrate Mom’s birthday with the family, she brought up some interesting facts to us. Listing each of these points. I asked her what that meant? She proudly said, “I was right”. Which she was, without a doubt, however I also let her know a much bigger life lesson that had just happened for her… to always trust herself, speak up and speak her mind!

My little girl empath has a very intuitive way of thinking and I just love it and want to completely support her in embracing it as a beautiful part of her personality!

Looking back she could have totally just got down on herself thinking that her words, thoughts, opinion do not matter or are not appreciated – even if she is right. However I am SO thankful she chose to stand up and make it known that she was right and it was completely her gut feeling each time to believe herself!

Kudo’s to you my girl! This just reminds your dad and I that we are doing something right as your parents especially when we encourage you and your brother to follow your heart and speak your mind! ❤

I can honestly admit when the kids were younger and asked “why?” all.the.time. It was slightly annoying LOL. However I am SO thankful for children asking why or pushing for what they believe, this is how they learn, this is how their personalities develop and how they begin to trust themselves and their own intuition. Im so proud to be your mama, to both of you! You are going to move mountains 🙂
