Loving What Is

By Byron Katie has been a simple, yet truly inspiring book this holiday season.

Loving What Is.

Literally stopping the stories in your mind to take a step back and really ask yourself, is that truth or is that a story you are simply telling yourself.

I’ve noticed something in me. As a photographer and Virgo, learning to TRUST that it’s “good enough” and cherish!

As a photographer I am not IN many of our photos, although with my current set up it’s much easier to BE in the group photos! Christmas I always hold back, to capture everyone in the moment of unwrapping and seeing the look on their faces. It’s truly heart warming. The laughter, smiles. Then I take time for me to sit and open my gifts and I hand off the camera.

Loving What Is, for me is allowing what is. Knowing, and by no fault of anyone, that the images taken with my camera by someone else won’t be the same as when my eye uses my camera, AND THAT IS OK!

As I looked back through the photos on the camera I had said to the kids that we will need to do more, they aren’t very clear and focused. I took a few minutes and downloaded some images… yes, was the focus slightly off, yup totally, we’re we smiling and looking great in the moment, YES!

LOOK! Its ME in some photos from the holidays!!!

Loving What Is, which is someone graciously offered their time to take photos so that I could be in some. I barely knew the settings on this new camera, would it be fair to expect more from someone who doesn’t have the same passion for photography? No!? But this wasn’t always the case, I used to be quite hard on myself that I should try harder, or set up the camera with a timer and run and be so exhausted from trying to figure people out and run to get the shot… Loving What Is! Sometimes those slightly blurry images are THE best image and that’s 100% ok. Loving What Is – True gratitude for your kids honoring your passion (but lets be real they love looking at the annual photo books!).

So, I’ve got some blurry photos, but I am IN them! That’s what counts truly!!! Plus Ive now taken some time to get more comfortable with this little camera so its becoming easier to use. Ironically, yes I still prefer my beast of a camera body, alas this little one is much easier on my neck and shoulders 😉 Im excited to learn more about it and put it to the test this winter!

Loving What Is ❤

  1. That’s such a great motto in general. We shouldn’t taint the moment with our preconceived notions. Things are what they are, and we should love what is. Thanks for this inspiration for my morning!
