One of the best resources I have found in my years of being a photographer is finding a reliable and trustworthy brand and store. We do not have many camera stores around us, so the one I found years ago and have repeatedly returned to is Henry’s.
One thing I do love about Henry’s is they offer both new and used. Over the years Ive purchased a variety of things from them both new and used. I do always insure my equipment for the full replacement cost vs a used cost, as we may not ever find that “deal” again and if something happens, to equipment you invest in, this is something you will want to ensure you have!
This time of year, their SALES on NEW AND USED are back! I honestly get excited when I can not only find something I desire, but also when I can get a ‘deal’!
I am partial to Canon, so I know their deals are GOOD for this brand, if you use other brands be sure to check it out, they have a fantastic selection for both new and used – plus the used section, they can add to it daily!
If you are in the market for a new, or new to you or just want to create your dream list (I understand… 😉 ) check it out!

Good article. I buy all my lenses used. Some from eBay, some from a good UK retailer. I thought all my equipment was covered on a general insurance policy we have for electrical devices but I found out recently, to my cost, second hand or used equipment isn’t covered 😕

Ooooh good to find that out before something happens! I had to add my equipment as individual riders on our insurance for it to be covered. Also as a hobby, which is totally fine. I tried doing this as a business years ago and burnt myself out and lost my creative drive to take pics for me!

I know exactly what you mean re the work/hobby experience. I started down the same path a few years ago. I’ve turned to blogging and gone back to Flickr recently to keep me inspired. I love photography as a hobby. We’re on holiday at present and I made a decision to only use vintage, prime, manual focus lenses whilst we’re away. It’s been great. I’ve missed the odd shot because I couldn’t focus fast enough or had the wrong focal length. Overall though it’s been great and I have a card full of images I’m quite proud of.
