Seasonal Joy: Balancing Family and Personal Interests

Is there something you can enjoy each season of the year? As my children have gotten older, as many parents, my life used to primarily revolve around them and their needs. As they became teenagers and didn’t need mom as much, it allows an opportunity to re-find yourself. However this opportunity can initially show as frustration or a sense of loss, unknown, in the vast unknown.

For a mother, parenting children for years, becomes your routine, it becomes you. A challenging adjustment while falling in love with this little tiny person you created, who now needs everything in their life from you. The life force becomes strong, the betrayal to yourself can sometimes be stronger.

Photography is my go to, after a busy week I was happy to relax at home Saturday morning, although when my husband mentioned about going out to the bush, I felt not just drawn, but a deep desire to be out IN the trees.

Having older teens also means they do not appreciate mom following them with a camera anymore doing their day to day stuff, I have the opportunity to photograph more of what I enjoy outside of my family.

As we rolled through the bush, slowly, at a gentle pace, taking in a deep breath of fresh air, peace took over my body. With a long to-do list, that can pause. All that matters is being present and choosing peace.

Nature truly is beautiful.

In this one ride, I downloaded over 500 photos, multiples were duplicates, its hard to hear the shutter with a helmet, also benefit to digital photography 😉

I am grateful that my passion for photography can overlap into the rest of our life, our teens may not appreciate me photographing everything they do (that stopped years ago 😉 ) I do capture all I can of their life and now with more time for me, I love getting out in nature in all seasons of life.
