Everyone has a story

There comes a time in life when all of us with have to deal with some sort of a health issue in some way. As many know I was diagnosed with PCOS back in 2005 when we were trying to conceive our first child. I also have Endometriosis and Hypothyroidism.

I used to be ashamed of these (as I did previous post about “Never Sacrifice Yourself”)

There has been many times that Ive stopped to think about events that have transpired in life, people who come in and out, who we pass by, are an aquantance or become a friend. Not all friendships last, relationships move on. We all grow.

Everyone has a story. Our lives are our own story.

Everything happens for a reason yet at times its so difficult to see that through the heartache. There are reasons for why people come into our lives, with each person comes a piece of our own puzzle. we learn about ourselves, at times learn from who they are of who we never want to be.

For some of us our own bodies are our own story. As these 3 health issues I have the “pleasure” of living with are one of those “invisible” or “unseen” – looking at me you wouldn’t know WHAT is “wrong” with me.

This week my mom passed on a link to me of a Doctor who was on the Marilyn Show . Her name is Dr Natasha Turner and her website is http://drnatashaturner.com/ . While on Marilyn’s show she spoke about her brand new book – just released on March 27th! The book is called The Carb Sensitivity Program . I have read a lot of PCOS books, many of them advising to avoid wheat/whole grains completely. I do not have a gluten problem, I have PCOS which greatly affects my blood sugar levels. After watching parts of the show online, I ordered the e-book that night and began reading, within her introduction was her writing about how she has PCOS.

Before buying the book I did know certain foods I *should* avoid, however like my previous post (Never Sacrifice Yourself) explained I always felt like I was a burden if I had to say “I cant eat that” – white pasta and bread is a very good example. I remember eating a really good bean salsa at my daughters birthday party (this salsa is a fav of mine now!) and I could feel the effects of the sugar, I then found out there was sugar in the dressing mixture AND I knew there was corn in the salsa – 2 big X’s right there!

I plan to read this book entirely before altering my diet more than I have, however I am more committed than ever to stay on the straight path of eating what I should be and not allowing these slip ups! What I am even more excited about is getting myself on a vitamin program. This is something I have been researching for a very long time, over the past 7 years Ive tried many concoctions of vitamin cocktails but never stuck with it.

Now is the time and this is going to be MY story on my journey to true health.

I want to have energy, I want to enjoy life more and now that I had surgery to help with the endometriosis, I am healed (they say it takes a full 3-6 months to completely heal, its almost been 4…) now is the time to focus on ME!

Through my research this is what I am now taking…

  • Women’s Multivitamin
  • Vitamin B Complex
  • Vitamin C (slow release)
  • Vitamin D
  • Omega 3/6/9
  • Probiotic
  • Cinnamon

Day 2 and I am feeling great, I felt less groggy this morning than I have other mornings (and yes I fell asleep at the same time after 11pm – which I am also working on changing), I am feeling great though! Having skimmed through her book, yes I was too impatient to just sit and read it front to back I had to skim through sections, I am paying much more attention to the foods I am eating and also their GI level.

Tonight I even snuk more high fibre into the kids meals and they loved it! Then I made the mistake of telling them what I put in their “sauce” for dippkng and suddenly the miss was totally grossed out – but the boy loved it and finished hers. I made a thin hummmus and used it as a base and then added the Diane’s BBQ sauce to it – they did love it! I also made a can of beans and because it was higher in sugar and carbohydrates I added hummus to this and cooked it down to help thin it out (so I could eat it as well) and they loved them! I was going to buy a couple cookbooks based on “sneaking” these healthy foods into various everyday food or changing up prepackaged foods with healthy puree’s… however I do not want to rely on manipulating boxed food, because I still can’t eat it, and if I can’t eat it what *could* it be doing to my kids or how *could* it be affecting them if it affects me.

So I am going to continue experimenting, I’ve already changed up the banana bread/muffin recipe and added apple sauce and honey to it… could probably sneak some hummus in their too! I will admit I am excited, I want to feel like I’m eating normal amd I love being in my kitchen cooking (just not big on measuring etc lol that’s why I don’t bake much I cook and just eyeball haha).

Yes, everyone has a story and we all have control over what our next chapter will begin and end like, much like all challenges in life, if you embrace it, find the strength within and think positive, you CAN do it!!!

Now off to read my e-book 😉

Hockey and our Boy

I always knew from the moment I knew I wanted to be a mom, that I wanted a boy and a girl. More specifically I wanted my boy first and then my girl, so he could watch over her. I do not know what I did to be so lucky to have these dreams come true, however I honestly do treasure every moment with them. Even the hard times because it reminds me that life is far from easy and that they have an awesome Daddy who is the other half of “team conception” lol !

This boy is a true BOY! He loves working with Daddy, going to the shop, watching racing, and most importantly Hockey! I have such a proud moment when I hear him talking about how he is going to grow up and work at Granpa’s shop and always go to school, even when he is big. Just like Daddy. I am so proud that he knows mommy and daddy work hard so both he and his sister can do fun things and it warms my heart when we go somewhere and HE offers to pay for something for us… even if he only has a small amount of change – its the thought and it matters SO very much!

Some shots of his last game!

Daddy watching his boy!

Madison and her friend watching their big brothers !

He was SO excited to get to wear this shirt for the first game!!!

Daddy & his Daughter

The relationship between a Daddy and his Daughter is something that is very precious. From the first time she grabs his finger or cuddles into his neck, when she calls him Daddy for the first time. Much like Daddy and his son have their own special bond, each are very much their own, a bond that with much love and time spent will continue to grow and get stronger with each passing day.

I absolutely treasure seeing my husband with each of the kids, capturing moments of their time together, of their special bond. One day she will look back on these images and much like I do with my own dad, feel a sense of pride, love and respect in an even greater way of her Dad and the love and protection he has for her.

Being a parent, a true parent to your child you embrace each stage of their life, each gesture of their small personality and never for a second, question their love. They very much are our life and we truly are theirs!

One of my husband’s favourite songs is a country fishing song… it sings about a Daddy out fishing with his daughter and the line that always gets Jaz is “… and she think’s we’re just fishing…” its time together that creates these bonds and moments to treasure!

Signs of Spring

In the tree beside our driveway is a tiny little nest… our kids are excited to see if someone might make this nest their home. Mady even called up asking “is anybody home in that nest?” LOL

Children enjoying the outside !

Gorgeous green grass and very happy (and finally tired) dogs!

The end of hockey season… with 2 excellent games for the Mount Forest Mites 2 RAMS!!!

Kids having fun outside together at Grama & Granpa’s!

Time

For the Camera Club the word chosen as the theme word was “Time” … these photos were all taken from our last camera club meeting and into March. Unfortunately I had to miss our March meeting, however I wanted to share my view on … Time!
