Wine Club… our 1st shipment arrived!

When we went away for a weekend a few months ago (hard to believe it was a few months ago now), we joined the Niagara Estates Wine Club. Yesterday we received our very first shipment!!!

We are saving these wines for an at home date night for hubby and I. Hopefully tomorrow night will be one of them, long as our dear children cooperate and go to bed on time ;)

Very excited to taste these and build our collection… hmmm build or drink haha!

What matters most to a child…

Many people think that children need this and that… A ton of toys, clothes etc when really what kids need most is love, acceptance, support and encouragement from the people they love and look up to.

Most of all they need and want time. Time together as a family.

Camera Club {Path} Photography – April

Met with the Mount Forest Camera Club last night, was so fun. I truly do enjoy seeing everyones photos each month and how each individual photographer interprets the theme word of that month.

This past month was “Path”. Easter weekend we as a family went up to the family cottage and I was able to capture one of my and my children’s favourite path’s in life, the path leading to the beach at the family cottage! The path that has led many children’s tiny toes to the sand and water, many of us now adults with our own children to now experience this amazing summer paradise.

The photo below represents the path of the boat launch within the bay at the cottage in Port Elgin, we are hoping the water levels stay up so that we can launch hubby’s new baby in there this summer!

And below are for fun… the path that our boat trailer tires made in the gravel when hubby brought the boat home to get ready for the boating season…

The next one is the boat sitting ready to make a path in the water!

We purchased this boat last August on a family trip up to Owen Sound (looking for a part for our old boat lol) we are all SO excited to get it in the water and begin making our own path’s! Hubby jokes that this boat was for my birthday as we bought it just days before my birthday since we moved the day before his birthday into our new house and the kids continue to this day, to remind him that he got the new house for his birthday haha! ;)

Friday Favourites… My Family <3 !

I finally got around to posting some Friday Favourites of the images I took this week. Over the years of our kids growing up Ive taken photos of them reading with daddy, these were from one night this week after bath time. One of our favourite night time activities to do with the kids is reading with them, they have always loved it!

For the photographer’s out there… the first two images were taken on my Canon 5D Mark III at 12,000 ISO! Amazing and no I did not do anything with noise reduction at all! Only processing was conversion to black and white :)

Depth of focus… open or closed?

I much prefer shooting wide open with my lens, meaning if the lens opens up to f1.2 (my fav indoor lens the Canon 50L f1.2) or 2.8 (which are my other 3 lens) I will shoot wide. This provides a gorgeous bokeh (blurry area) to my photo.

There are times that shooting with a more closed down aperture is more desirable, such as shooting landscape shots or when in the middle of the summer on a beach – the sunny 16 rule is perfect for this!

Here are a couple examples I took of closed down vs shooting wide open.

These photos are in the wet lands behind our property, it is gorgeous with the vast variety of not only plant life, trees and wildlife down there. It does get quite wet about 20 feet past our property line so I most certainly had to use the zoom on my Canon 24-70 f2.8L lens.

Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark III
Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
Aperture f/13.0
Focal Length 200 mm
ISO Speed 200

Then I opened up the aperture and shot this,

Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark III
Exposure 0.001 sec (1/2000)
Aperture f/2.8
Focal Length 200 mm
ISO Speed 200

In this example I personally prefer the wide open shot, it is more appealing to me having some areas of the photo blurred with the plant life that I focused on standing out. This is also something that as a photographer you begin to find your groove as you find your own style. The majority of my photography is shot wide open, this brings out the creativity in me and the more natural shots. Shooting landscape for me is somewhat of a treat as its not something that deeply interests me, but when the creative juices begin flowing its always fun!

Ready for the colours of Spring!

I could photograph pretty much anything, as much as I enjoy the beauty of landscape shots, love the pure fresh spring sky and the new green grass… I love the colours of Spring. Probably why fall is my favourite season with all the gorgeous colours. I cannot wait to see all the flowers in bloom and some softer sunshine through all the greenery, trees and flowers! Of course we now have snow in the forecast for tomorrow… Bring.On.Spring and the warmer temperatures!

Enjoying Mother Earth ~ #Photography on #EarthDay

I love when I have the opportunity to drive and just take photos, stop wherever my heart desires and shoot. I really shoot have a sign on my van that says
{Photographer At Work}
for those wondering why this crazy lady keeps pulling over so much or why Im hoping the guardrail or sucking myself in as close as possible on the bridge haha ;)

The Photos are from the Saugeen River, some from the S. Saugeen River and others up by the bridges on Highway 6 and Highway 89 coming into Mount Forest at the south end of town. Some other shots are from the Odwyer Bridge on Minto Road 12, also of the field and horses which are at the yield sign off of Minto Road 12 (on 7 Bridges).

I had a blast and cannot wait for the flowers to start coming out. Next time I will take a tour the other way perhaps taking the back roads from my house out to 89 and then across out to 6 just before Kenilworth and then come back into town! Im really getting the urge for some macro photography once more flowers are in bloom! I am eagerly awaiting the fruit trees in our back yard – we think they are apple!

HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!
