Coming Into Balance

I am the mom of an amazingly kind, intelligent and fun ADHD boy. I love him dearly for not only being my son but also taking me through a new life journey.

I am learning to embrace ME and every little bit about me.

Ive been putting much more value for having downtime at home to recharge, plan, prepare and be together. That’s me and if that’s what, I need its ok!

Im so much more happier. Our family is so much more happier. Everything we have (we are still in a purge and organize mode) has a place and every place has what is to be there. We are working towards this and as we do my heart becomes so much more inline and balanced.

Being a PCOS and ADHD Mom it requires a lot of heart, planning, patience and understanding for all of us. Its been a journey we’ve been on for many years – over 13! You know what though… knowledge is POWER!

The more time I spend learning and listening to others experiences, coping mechanisms, health choices, the more I come into balance.

Friday we said good-bye to a wonderful man in our family. A man who we’ve known as long as Jaz and I have known each other. It was sad, yet also a blessing. It truly does shake up the emotions inside. I am thankful the rest of the weekend was just a go with the flow.

Such a beautiful weekend with family and some friends. Most of all a weekend at home. What I am learning is for our family – we need our downtime to recharge and prepare for the week ahead. Most weekends I aim for at least half a day to a full day at home to relax and be productive. This is great. Everyone may not need this, but for us we definitely do and that’s great.

Perhaps its more balanced boundaries. Knowing this is how we recharge, prepare and expand into the next week – so this is what we are doing.

I will admit, some weeks fly by, I can be honest they are not the most organized or clean. Sometimes dishes sit for a couple-few days, laundry is piling up in their hampers and there is dog hair everywhere!!! Thats ok. I have to remind myself – this is REAL life and its ok. Go with the flow.

This weekend I had the opportunity to finish off organizing our kitchen. While hubby and I were away in Texas my mom came over and helped us with some more organizing, this weekend I did some more organizing and am SO excited for the next stages we are at – built in pantry, closet pantry chalk door, trim and a few other finishing touches. We are getting so close and I know it feels really good because its what we envisioned, everything has a place and every place has the right thing. I am just thrilled we were able to bring this kitchen dream to life! Where we are at now – we are totally organized! Yay. Trim is being painted and hubby and his dad are making trim install plans!

We are lucky, my husband and I. We have the carpentry brilliance with my father in law Tony and my hubs Jaz! We have the talent and expansive knowledge of plumbing and hvac from my dad Jamie and my hubs Jaz! I am truly blessed and fortunate to have them in our life. For all of them to have a significant hand in us transforming our house into our home.

One other thing I have learned while growing as a mom its also that weekends, which are less structured, is that we need structure of some kind, even if its just one thing. This weekend it was skating Saturday and Monday and visiting with friends over a late lunch on Sunday. Also providing time to get more organized, prepare for the week with groceries, tidy up and keep the kitchen tidy :D Big smiles for that one!

We have also been pulling our mornings together a bit better by doing one simple thing. Making our bed.
Its a total visual thing. I love things looking streamlined and tidy. I like things being simple. Simple to use and multipurpose – less clutter, space.
It really feels mind opening and clearing.
Having time in the kitchen did that for me this weekend.
Having the rec room picked up and the kids beds made.

I am so grateful.

Grateful that we embrace us, we allow ourselves to have downtime to make it a priority for each of us, to be the planners that we (ok mostly I and Cars) need to be, having things organized with a place for everything and making time to do what we enjoy not just “what we have to do”. Its beneficial for all of us. For this mama to meditate and enjoy some quiet ME time! Its truly phenomenal!

Beautiful timing being as its Family Day weekend <3

Beginning To Use Essential Oils

Beginning to use oils in your home can be uncomfortable at first because for many it’s out of the “norm” of what they are used to.

I like to suggest to people to start out with the Top 10 or Fav 8 oils when getting started.

These oils can be used in a variety of ways for your physical and emotional health as well as making your home smell fantastic 😉! They also come in a convenient kit at a discount and with some great info to help you on your journey!

Starting out with the oils, begin using them for simple everyday things like before you go to bed put a drop of Lavender, Balance or Wild Orange in some unscented lotion or coconut oil and rub on the back of your neck and bottoms of your feet.

Feeling like you have a hard time getting going in the morning? Use a drop of Peppermint and/or Wild Orange and rub in your hands and on the back of your neck. Cup your hands over your face and inhale.

Refresh your kitchen with Lemon or on Guard in a spray bottle with some vinegar and water to cleanse the surfaces.

Feeling tension use Deep Blue, Peppermint or Lavender to help soothe.

Feeling anxious before a trip or an important event? Lavender, Balance, Frankincense and Wild Orange are beautiful to help calm, ground and relax.

Did you know when you purchase a kit with me you get access to our exclusive online group with information, tips and hints as well as others to ask questions to and learn from the various ways they use their oils too!

Always Speak Up

As I was pulling dinner together tonight after getting week 2 of our cleanse supplements together I got thinking.

Hubby and I had a great few days away, granted alot of work talk, but still enjoyed being away together with no responsibilities. We got home, picked up the kids, we needed groceries, to make lunch and then leave for our boys hockey game which was almost an hour and a half away. Then to get home and make dinner, bedtime routine for a school day tomorrow.

As I was puttering around in the kitchen making a grocery list I began cleaning out the fridge and putting things that needed to be dumped on the counter.

My hubby had went and sat down to find the all star hockey happening and I could feel my anxiety begin to rise. I could feel my frustration as I thought we need to do, this, this and this before this time… It’s easy for me to escalate like this and panic begin to set in.

Out of frustration I asked hubby to “take care of this” as I pointed at the counter and walked out the door to get groceries. As I was driving I began to worry about the time but eased my mind that I still had lots of time.

I was home only 30 minutes later, still with lots of time to eat and put groceries away. I even got the dishwasher started, some dishes washed and asked hubby if he could make the guac for tonight.

After the game we came home and began into the evening routine. I finished up with the dishes and then began pulling things together for dinner. Pulled our supplements out and loaded up our week 2 supplements for the Cleanse we are doing and began laying organizing the other part of dinner when it hit me.

Today went so smooth and easy because I spoke up and asked. It then reminded me that as amazing of a man my hubby is, he’s not a freaking mind reader. Nor am I. He didn’t know what I needed or wanted done. Yet when I asked him, he had no problems helping me. Its OK to ask for help.

I’ve been feeling very reflective lately. In a very short time I’ve heard of alot of couples/families splitting. It breaks my heart. Obviously their situation is their own and their business. No judgment.

That could have been us. On at least a few occasions.

It really has made me reflect on where we have come from as individuals, a couple, parents and family.

Things that can and have tore people apart, we’ve found strength, love and understanding. A stronger bond.

By speaking up.

As I stood in our new kitchen this evening, my heart bursting with joy knowing that our custom kitchen, we put so much time into designing perfect for us (seriously alot lol), after speaking up and discussing together we’re getting closer to the finishing touches that make me SO excited!

A vision we both saw, with our own touches that we wouldn’t be enjoying if either of us hadn’t spoke up. One we designed together. A home we are transforming together.

I look back and am grateful that the things that just about broke us, pushed us to be stronger and because of that we are here today and its pretty freakin awesome!

If that had been us, we wouldn’t be here today. We wouldn’t be the people we are, experienced the things we’ve experienced and have the beautiful home we have.

I am grateful and thankful we each learned to speak up, follow our gut and communicate. Life will always throw us curve balls, sometimes when we least expect it. Its often to easy to make assumptions, or choose to be quiet, worry about about the “what if’s” and sometimes those worries are fear holding us back from something so much more incredible. We can grow so much more when we communicate, with ourselves, with each other.

I know every moment won’t always feel like this, daily life as parents, both of us working in our family business and more outside circumstances. However it certainly makes it easier to think back and remember on these moments of reflection to provide strength, to remember that if at ever at a crossroads, to choose to speak up. To always choose happiness. To know that there will be tough days, but when through them it is so incredibly awesome.

Capture Those Memories

Every year I create photo books for our family of the kids and our family over the past year. We love looking back through the photos, especially the kids. While creating our 2017 books I became filled with love while looking back at previous years books. The everyday, “simple” things that were in the book capturing our life exactly as it was at that time.

Even simple things like the kids eating, helping me in the kitchen, watching tv, playing outside. I captured it all. As they’ve been growing and getting bigger, I admit I have not been taking as many photos.

These memories light me up. They light our kids up. Getting behind the camera also lets my creativity flow. I love the artistic flow of life and how capturing even the simplest things means so very much in years to come!

So for 2018 I vow to pick up my camera more! Whether its my phone camera or my big camera – capturing the moments AND being IN the photos with my kids and family!

2018-01-01 Fondue 2

We don’t know what life will give us, we have to live each and every moment to the fullest. I promise you, if you begin taking everyday photos of your kids and family – look back a year later and you will feel your heart fill up with love and gratitude.

What If We All…

I sometimes get very inquisitive about what makes the world turn and why we cannot all just get along be happy and live in peace.

My word this year is Balance. The very next that goes with it is Respect. For me the two go hand in hand.

How amazing the world would be if we all just lived a happy life.

You buy from who and what ever you want, that’s your choice. No judgment.

You paid a fair price and charged a fair price for your product and/or service. Everyone encourages and celebrates each other’s success.

You use safe ingredients in your products to encourage prolonging life vs potentially harming life.

You communicate in relationships and value the positive attributes of each other.

You know it’s OK to ask for help and do the personal work when you need to.

You are ok with letting go of past hurt, betrayal, negativity and could open yourself to forgiveness.

You are truly committed and respectful of the other person in all of your relationships – romantic, children, friendship, workplace.

You honor, understand and respect other people. Their time, money, property, relationships and intellect.

You understand that everyone has good and bad days and that’s completely OK.

You encourage everyone to invest in their own self care especially when feeling down.

You make yourself and your self care a priority in your life. What you eat, how much you sleep, drinking enough water, cry when needed, laugh at any opportunity you can.

You understand that sometimes in life we must work hard, even when it may feel easier to give up.

You were open to all the possibilities of life, incredible growth, health and true happiness.

You make time to do what you love and enjoy.

You are true to your word and value the meaning of that.

You understand that everyone has a story…

You are..

  • Responsible
  • Respectful
  • Loving
  • Caring
  • Loyal
  • Trusting
  • Inspired
  • Grateful
  • Generous
  • Understanding
  • Honest
  • Dedicated
  • Passionate
  • Creative
  • Empowered
  • Successful
  • Worthy
  • Thankful
  • Healthy
  • Emotional

You’re just a “Good” person! Respectful of others, always.

Can you imagine how amazing the world would be?! I can… a world of peace, happiness where everyone is encouraged to do what makes them happy and live a fulfilled, healthy life.

No judgment. Only love and respect.

That’s what we ALL deserve.

For 2018 this is what is allowed into my life. I welcome you to open for heart and mind to what you truly NEED in your life and if its time to make a change… begin with yourself first. Sometimes making the decision to “do the work” is the hardest choice we have to make and yet its ourselves – its us who sometimes needs the work, not anyone else ;)

If you are feeling at a crossroads in your life, unhappy with your life, relationship, job, health, finances – YOU can change that and a lot of times without making a significant drastic change or choice in your life. YOU have the control to design your ideal life.

It all starts with you…

What If We All… 💞

What If We All - 20170812-IMG_5655.jpg

Moving Into 2018 with Balance in Life

With the kids off for a couple weeks, I enjoyed the break from making lunches over the holiday’s, however with every ‘break’ I also begin to crave our routine again!

Moving into 2018 one of my area’s of growth I am focusing on is “Balance”. I LOVE this word that jumped into my head during my reflection of 2017 and vision for 2018. Balance, so simple yet full of impact.

Balance in our morning routine, daily flow for each of us, work – school – home life, hobbies – passions and also our health.

Its super easy to become a mind prisoner to your to-do list, overwhelmed by the daily responsibilities or pressure of what should be.

“There is more than enough time”

How often do we say instead ‘I don’t have time…”, or “I am so busy…”. I for one, feel my anxiety level begin to rise when I hear or say statements like this.

All of these things that I’ve let overwhelm me at times, I’m going to shift my mind and enjoy the time.

A significant shift for me. To being balance into our lives. To make the time for my own self care as well as my family’s self care like sports, activities, school etc, meal planning – for planning and budget.

Balance to enjoy every moment we are thrown in life whether its happiness, or a challenge to help us grow. Balance to not feel rushed, to go with the flow and enjoy the beauty all around us. It truly is incredible.

When you think of 2018 what word pops into your head?

What are you hiding from yourself?

Any mom’s out feel like someday’s you’ve lost your mind?
I remember when our son was a baby, my hubby worked for himself, I was on mat leave from work but still had some part time duties and my body suddenly figured out how to get pregnant without medical intervention…
I had to become OK with not being ok and letting things “go”… challenging for a Virgo! We welcomed our baby girl and I suddenly had two under 18 months, a house hold, hubby in school and and and…
My biggest mistake I can now admit… was not admitting I was not ok. By hiding behind my emotions and feelings. By not being honest about how I was truly feeling and continuing to say ‘Its OK’ when it truly wasn’t. I paid too much attention to pleasing others, worrying about what other people think or what they needed, what their problems were and how I could solve them – but I wasn’t helping me.
What are you hiding from yourself?
The mental load is burning women out!
I consider myself lucky, I have a partner to raise our children with, he is an amazing dad, he loves us, he loves me, he loves each of the kids, he works hard, he helps around the house, he cooks, does his own laundry – yet I still have that running ‘to-do’ list of “family” or “house” things always running through my mind. It truly is exhausting.
My own reality check was the start of the summer 2017.
After having a dry basement for the entire 6 years we had lived in our house, our basement flooded. After we literally JUST finished completely re-doing the entire basement in March. I had let my feelings of overwhelm control me and much of the organizing to-do list was neglected and completely unorganized. We were already in a cycle of feeling stressed and overwhelmed because we had to get organized. I was honestly contemplating hiring a professional organizer it was feeling that daunting.
This summer was my own reality check… Why? because it was completely out of our control. Another challenge for me ;)
For years we’ve been go, go, go, put alot of important things – to us – on the back burner. Truth be told I also had a LOT of healing to do that I had continually pushed off. Stuff and a jam packed calendar is incredibly overwhelming for me. Alot of the “stuff” held emotional connection that was no longer benefiting me and the decision to “let go” was now out of my control and made for me.
After dealing with infertility many people would think getting pregnant would make everything in the world better. For part of my world it did, it was my dream to be a mom, one that I was told may not ever happen. Then another amazing blessing happened and our daughter was born. Absolutely incredible, our family was complete. But I cannot (now) hide how emotionally difficult this was for me and how it carried along in my life.
Emotionally I was hit incredibly hard. Healing from infertility, trying to get a grip on what the hell PCOS and Hypothyroidism was and how to deal, raising two babies not even 18 months apart while hubby was in school and working getting his footing in his new job within my family business, while I was on mat leave with our babies and my health was completely wonky. I kept myself busy and didn’t truly deal with the healing I so desperately needed.
I will never forget the day my hubby came home from work and I was in tears again… and I told him something is wrong I need to go see the doctor. The solution from the doctor was that I needed an anti-depressant. For many years I was on this and still did not feel “ME”. However, I fell within all “normal ranges” and I was “fine” according to the medical community. I however, knew something wasn’t right.
We bought, what we would make our “dream home”, in the summer of 2011. However with life, I still had healing to do before I could be ok with the major reno’s that we had planned. Change isn’t always easy and so we just continued living our busy life.
In February 2015 I took the leap and invested in myself. After using our doTERRA essential oils for just over 6 months I began on our lifelong vitality supplements. It was incredible the difference I felt in my body. I could come home from work and still have energy to get things done around the house AND have fun with the kids. I was feeling so good in fact that I was feeling more confident that I in fact didn’t need anti-depressants, what my body truly needed was proper supplementation and nutrition… I began weaning off my anti-depressants very, very slowly and have been completely medication free (anti-depressant, hypothyroidism and PCOS) since the fall of 2016 and now in my best health yet!
In late 2015 we decided to finally GO and begin the transformation in our house… Adding the oils and supplements was life changing for me and helped me be “ready” for the upcoming change. First beginning with a complete overhaul of our basement. Long story short, with every room we discovered a major challenge – this also began to take a tole on all of us. Emotionally and physically. But we did it!

It was beautiful. Our kids were so happy, we were happy to have the additional space knowing that it was also safe for our family and our new kitchen and flooring was even underway upstairs, everything finally felt like it was happening in our favour… until that morning of June 23rd at 530am when our family was woke to a flooded basement.

Without a doubt, our situation was not the worse in our community. Thankfully our son woke up when he did as that truly saved a lot more damage that could have happened. Thankfully it was almost the start of summer.

However I was once again hit very hard emotionally.

We had saved for a lot of years for this transformation and in a matter of hours it was ruined. It was incredibly heavy on me. Yes we had insurance to cover it, however we were starting almost from scratch again!

Reading this article below, very much hit home for me. Because this incredible “load” hit me very hard this summer.

What this has taught us is even more important… the three biggest things:
  1. We have each other <3
  2. Communication is KEY!
  3. Stuff is simply that!

We kept the communication realistic for our children’s ages but also real. After what was supposed to be a simple reno downstairs we happily took on ourselves (because it was to be simple) turned chaotic, expensive and stressful. Hubs and I were stressed and admittedly not communicating as we should of been. One evening completely changed that when we both admitted how incredibly difficult this was on each of us individually. We became a strong team again.

We sat down as a family the one night and I was very real with needing and wanting their help in the house from everyone and how hard it was on me. When we finished talking, without even asking the kids jumped up, cleared the table and began cleaning up the kitchen. It was huge. Like a big breath of fresh air and exactly what we needed as a family. By sticking together we could get through it – again!

As we wind down 2017 with the Christmas holiday season approaching I reflected on how strong we’ve already become emotionally and physically. Being vulnerable and open to learning and letting go, sometimes new things, new ways. By facing challenges and difficult situations openly and honestly to grow. To continue strengthening our health and embracing a clutter free life! For challenging myself and achieving healthy weight loss goals! For putting our emotional well-being as a priority.

At my kids school the one night before Christmas holidays, my daughter was showing me one of her projects… The kids had to write things about themselves. My daughters started off with being an artist and an animal expert, how much she loves foxes and a few other things. She then wrote ‘I still cry about my dead dog’ and ‘I understand my cat has to die’.

We’ve spoken about our family dog Elwood, many times over the years and although at times she would mention she misses him but it would be left at that. Our cat’s health is perfect according to her bloodwork, however has a neurological challenge which is aging her. On our way home I asked my daughter about what she wrote. “I was only 3 I barely remember Elwood, we moved here and we got Becker… A lot happened that year Mommy!”. Yes these 3 changes were both stressful, sad, happy and exciting. To a 3 year old… they were massive to deal with emotionally and ones that still were being held because she didn’t really understand how to process it.

Relationships, routines and downtime is important to our kids – just like us. I reminded her she can always talk about how she is feeling to myself or her dad or another family member or friend she is comfortable talking to. Good advice for anyone!

Over the holidays we had time as a family, relax, get more organized and open up our space by purging more things! Its been exactly what we’ve needed – and that’s completely ok!

What are you hiding from yourself?
What are you hiding from your loved ones?
What do you need the most right now?
What if you were a bit more vulnerable to talk more openly
about how you are feeling?

I challenge you to sit down and be honest with yourself of your true satisfaction in these 12 areas of your life: Love Relationships, Friendships, Adventure, Environment, Health & Fitness, Spirituality, Intellectual, Skills, Career, Creativity, Family and Community.

To live your best life – what changes do you need to make.
Yes! We all have something we can work on and improve.
What are you hiding from yourself?
Where is your heart leading you?
If you could make any change what would it be?

As we’ve moved out of the  Christmas Holiday Season I also challenge you, presence over “presents” for your loved ones for 2018. Capture some amazing memories with your camera and perhaps for the first time in a while, slow down and enjoy the gift of time!
